New retail head brings client relationships to the forefront

We welcome experienced agricultural sales professional Steve Kelly to the VetSouth team. Hear why looking after our customers is his top priority.

“In my first few weeks, I have learnt that VetSouth is a unique business in the amount of touch points it has with its clients. I see my role is to help the experience flow down through to the retail chain offering, so that clients know they are valued, are being looked after and will want to return.”

Born and bred Southlander Steve Kelly has recently joined the VetSouth team as our new retail sales manager and has hit the ground running, with a passion for ensuring our clients get access to the experience VetSouth has to offer.

Steve has over 20 years in agricultural sales under his belt, having worked for leading companies such as agri-technology co-operative Livestock Improvements (LIC) and dairy tech supplier Milfos.

Most recently, he did a seven-year stint at livestock identification specialist Allflex, where he held various roles from South Island area manager to national sales manager, leading a team of area managers around the country and dealing with key customers.

Steve grew up on a sheep farm near Riversdale and went to school in Gore, where he now lives with his wife and four children.

Making the move to VetSouth was an opportunity for Steve to work within his local community, use his agricultural knowledge for good and put his customer-focus at the forefront.

“I understand agriculture and the challenges that farmers are facing everyday. I am also always striving for operational excellence, as I know the benefits for both the business and the customer.

I have a strong personal and professional network and understand relationships and the importance of them, both internally within the team and externally with customers.

Without customers, a business is going to struggle. I am a firm believer that if a customer has a fantastic experience with a company, they will return, so my goal is to help VetSouth to achieve that.”

So, how have his first few weeks been with the VetSouth team?

“The people have been amazing! There are so many talented people in this business and I feel so welcome.

Everyone seems to love a good laugh, which is refreshing. I’m also enjoying the afternoon tea shouts!”

Getting to know Steve:

How do you spend your free time? Mostly chasing my 4 kids (aged between 5-11) around at sports and activities. Outside of that, I play social cricket and am on the junior committee at the Albion Rugby Club.

What do you love most about the South? The people! They say the further south you go, the friendlier the people get and they are not wrong.

Do you have any pets or farm animals at home? We have a Rottie called Bo and my daughter has Gus the rabbit! We do get a few lambs in spring, but they generally end up in the freezer…
